If we are recommending books, I can definately recommend "MI6 and the Machinery of Spying" by Philip H.J. Davies ISSN: 1368-9916). A very interesting look at the internal organisation of SIS from its formation in 1903 to the present day. My wife brouht it me for Christmas (God Bless the "Amazon.co.uk Wish List")
Especially interesting is the last line in the Dedications:
"It is also dedicated to the memory of the late Ian MacIntosh, creator of the Yorkshire Television series The Sandbaggers, whose fiction about SIS went so far to inspire a search for the facts".
That Ian MacIntosh bloke has a lot to answer for, if you ask me. Look at him - inspring people left, right and centre without a by your leave ;)
