I can't even keep track of how many authors I've thrown at him. I think the one that surprised me most that he didn't finish was Cain by James Huggins. He enjoys comics, and I think Cain and Greg Rucka's stuff both read like comic books (which is a GOOD thing!). He started A Fistful of Rain while we were at the hospital trying to decide if I was in labor, then he got sick the next morning and had to stay in bed for the day, was about halfway through the book by the time he felt better. Amazingly enough, he kept reading it - he's started quite a few books but hasn't ended up finishing any of them.

I thought about giving him the Q&C novels next since back when he used to read he enjoyed Tom Clancy, but I haven't seen a good opportunity for him to sit down with a book (I'm on bed rest, he has to pick up the slack until the baby is born). I might give him Shooting at Midnight next - I think Rucka's books from a female perspective are more interesting than those written from a male perspective, but I can see where jumping into the middle of the series might be a little confusing.

I read a little of everything, mostly murder mystery and science fiction (one for when I don't want to think, the other for when I do). Our house is full of books, my three-year-old is already in love with the printed word, but my husband doesn't have the same bug, except for technical books, word origin books, trivia books, etc. I'm starting to wonder if a book didn't do something traumatic to him at some point - I know he USED to read, he's got boxes and boxes of well-read science fiction novels, but then he just stopped.

: : I just wanted to let you know that A Fistful of Rain is the first non-technical book my husband has finished in close to ten years. I've thrown several different genres, authors, etc. at him, he's never managed to make it more than halfway through any of them before tossing them aside.

: =====================

: That's wonderful news! It must please you no end to know you've finally found a writer to interest him, yes? I get so much pleasure out of reading, especially good fiction, that every time I hear a story about someone who only reads material for their job, or never has the time to read fiction (eek!), or finds every book they pick up is booooring, it becomes a personal goal of mine to match them with the right book. Helps that I own a bookstore, right? I'm on a crusade. LOL

: So...who do you like reading and, besides that, who has your husband decided is NOT right for him? We here on Greg's forum would be happy to recommend other books for you to tempt hubby with....;)
