Knightsbridge is the type of real-life organization that Bruce Wayne might be involved in if he felt too old to be running around in spandex. It's a volunteer organization founded by three fifty-ish ex-military men who are also Knights of the Order of Malta. Basically, they go into war-torn areas, the sort of places where no other aid organization would even consider going and deliver on a non-partisan basis food, medical supplies, and even solar technology. One such mission took them to Afghanistan in October 2001 to aid victims of the Taliban.
Ed Artis, Dr. Jim Laws, and Walt Rutterman, who are the three principal members of Knightsbridge, have no illusions about the effects of their work. They know they're essentially putting a band aid on a stomach cancer. But they still research the countries they'll be visiting, and inventively squeeze the most value out of their donations as possible. Knightsbridge has been in operation for a couple of decades.
I first heard about the group through "Beyond The Call." It's a new documentary directed by Adrian Belic, who directed "Genghis Blues" with Roko Belic. At the moment, the film hasn't gotten commercial distribution, so your best chance of catching it would be at a film festival that screens it. But it definitely is worth watching.
