So, after a long semester, I was finally able to go home, slap that sharp looking plate on my copy, and read away. As usual, I couldn't put it down, and as usual, I loved Greg's protagonist.
Anyway, I was happily suprised by the ending. The only gripe I've ever had with the novels is that they all end with a swift kick to the proverbial nuts. I mean, how many of the Kokiak books have a terribly depressing last page - same thing with Gentleman's Game. We spend so many hundred pages seeing Atticus or Tara or whoever else built up, crafted perfectly for us to care for them. And Bam! Tom dies, or Atticus has nobody to help him through, and once again we wait for Greg to build them back up again next year, or the year after, making the anticipation almost boil over.
But I'm happy that I don't have to do that now. Tara did what she had to, and went home to her baby. Here's to a happy ending...
