For those who like strong female characters (which pretty much covers the people who regularly read this forum), the English horror film "The Descent" will definitely be of interest.
The director is Neil Marshall, whose previous film was the soldiers vs. werewolves tale "Dog Soldiers." This new film concerns an all-woman sextet of adventure travelers. In the prologue, one particular trip ends on a personally tragic note for the group. Now it's a year later, and leader Juno has re-assembled the team for a milk-run spelunking expedition in the Appalachians. However, things soon turn nasty and it's not clear if the real danger facing the women is what they find below or their fellow teammates.
Other sites mentioning the film spoil several significant details in the film. The link below to the official English film site shouldn't spoil things too much.
The film, which opens in the US this month, might creep in and out of multiplexes given that there are no big name stars associated with it. But it is worth checking out if you don't mind occasionally jumping out of your seat while watching it.
