Welcome to the board! This is an awesome question and one I've often been curious about.

I've said Critical Space was my favorite of the series for basically this same reason. I loved that whole segment of the book.

However, in reading the books a second time I am remembering how much I enjoyed Finder and am now rethinking my proclaimation of CS as #1.

Either way this is a question I'd love to see answered.
