: I liked Lawrence Block's quote on that website. He has a collection of
: essays on writing, "Telling Lies for Fun & Profit," which is good reading
: for us amateurs.

I'm a huge Block fan (I'll come clean, I'm also his webmaven) and the books on writing are fun even if you don't intend to write. Not only "Telling Lies" but "Spider Spin Me a Web" and "Write for your Life". He also did one for Writer's Digest magazine called "Writing the Novel from Plot to Print" but that title isn't nearly as catchy :) so I tend to forget it. "When the Sacred Ginmill Closes" and "Eight Million Ways to Die"...THOSE I can remember!

Talk about exceptional days. I was working at my bookstore and Greg walked in to say HI, then a half hour later, so did Larry Block! One of the many reasons why living in NYC is so much fun.
