: Have you ever read Chinaman's Chance by Ross Thomas? As diverse as Thomas' novels are, that one is often named as most people's favorites. I know it's mine, along with The Eighth Dwarf (no humor, despite its title) and The Fourth Durango.
I have accumulated all the Ross Thomas books, but haven't read them yet. (Not unusual for me. I've only read four or five of Greg's books. Knowing I was several novels behind in her books, Laura Lippman wrote "catch up!" in my copy of her latest, an inscr1ption that will doubtless confuse somebody years from now.) Anyway, I'm positive I will like the Thomas books when I read them, eventually.
: Lansdale is another wonderfully funny, as well as just wonderfully talented, (The Bottoms) author. His Mucho Mambo is still my fav, probably because it's the first Hap n' Leonard novel I ever read. Has anyone heard the latest about the sequel to Bubba Hotep?
Interestingly, Coscarelli put the plug for 'Bubba Nosferatu' at the end of 'Bubba Ho-Tep' even though Lansdale had told him flat out that there would be no sequel. But Joe has since relented, and said that it would be okay to do 'Bubba Nosferatu.' The search for funding is underway, but nobody got rich off of 'Bubba Ho-Tep' so I don't know if the money will ever be found or not.
(Joe and I have mutual friends, so I've spent a surprising number of nights in his company considering that he lives in Nacogdoches and I live in Baltimore. He is an incredibly funny raconteur.)
