We could have a long discussion over Parker's titles and never get to the cover art issue. How he comes about his titles is interesting to me. It's - as so often in publishing - by committee. He proposes a title or two and everybody emphatically suggests others :). I'm not sure that works until there's a true majority in favor of one title over another. Some titles are just..."Oh yah, that's GREAT" while other titles need to marinate. I've learned never to take the first impression of a title to heart, whereas I used to think that was exactly what was important: the first impression a potential buyer might have. But you know, once there's the cover art (agreed, another issue altogether) and it's in solid book form, a title can take on an authority, a gravitas, it didn't have before.

Or so it seems....
